Okani — Terms of Service

Effective date: August 30, 2026

This English version is a master text. A French translation is produced from it. In France, the French version is the authoritative version. Where the two differ, the French text prevails for users in France.

These Terms are a contract between you and Xav Harrigin-Ramoutar ("we", "us"), the operator of Okani (the "Service"), available at okani.io. By creating an account you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

Nothing in these Terms removes rights you have as a consumer under French or German law. Where a clause here would conflict with a mandatory consumer-protection or data-protection rule that applies to you, that mandatory rule prevails and the rest of these Terms still apply.

1. Who we are

The Service is operated by Xav Harrigin-Ramoutar. Contact: privacy@okani.io.

At launch, Xav Harrigin-Ramoutar is an individual. If a company is later formed to operate Okani, it will take over these Terms as operator; we will tell you if that happens, and your rights will not be reduced by the change. Full legal-identity details (mentions légales / Impressum) are published within the app and on okani.io.

2. Eligibility

You must be 16 or older to use Okani. By creating an account you confirm that you are. If you are not, you may not use the Service.

3. Your account

4. What Okani does

Okani lets you create and join private groups, plan events, RSVP, share photos and media, post and react with emoji in group discussions, send and react to direct messages (with optional delivery and read indicators), and discover local vendors (such as venues and caterers) in Paris and Berlin. The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use.

5. Your content and the licence you give us

5.1 You own your content

You keep all rights to the content you create or upload — photos, media, discussion posts, direct messages, event details ("Your Content"). These Terms do not transfer ownership to us.

5.2 The licence you grant

So that we can run the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and display Your Content only to the extent needed to operate and provide the Service to you, to the members of the groups you share it with, and — for a direct message — to the one person you send it to. This licence:

5.3 You are responsible for what you share

You confirm you have the right to share Your Content and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

If you generate a share link for an event, you are responsible for who you send it to, and you confirm you are entitled to disclose that event's title, time, and location to the people who receive the link. A share link shows those three fields to anyone who holds it. A link-holder can also send you a guest reply — a first name and an answer — which is shown, marked as a guest reply, to you and to the people who can see the event in the app; as the event's host you can remove any guest reply (see the Privacy Policy, Section 3.3).

If you add photos directly to an event, everyone who can see that event — the members of every group it is shared with, and any guests the host has approved — can see those photos, and the audience can grow if the event is later shared with another group or guest. Add only photos you are comfortable sharing with that audience. The event's organizer, and the admins of the groups it is shared with, can remove any photo from the event.

The same responsibility applies to the short texts and images you attach to things — an RSVP arrival note, a photo caption, an event's cover photo, a group's photo: each is visible to the same people as the thing it is attached to, so do not put other people's private information in them. If you set a group's photo, make sure you have the right to show it to the group; it belongs to the group and stays after you leave (Privacy Policy, Section 3.2).

6. Rules of conduct

You agree not to use Okani to:

Groups are private spaces. Content you share is visible to the members of your groups; behave accordingly. Group admins may manage membership of the groups they run.

7. Reporting and moderation

If you see content that breaks these rules, you can report it from inside the app: hold a discussion message, open a photo in the viewer, or open a person's profile, and choose to report. This works for messages, photos and files shared in a group, photos added to an event, and profiles, as well as for a message or a person in a direct-message conversation. You can also contact privacy@okani.io. Reports are not visible to anyone but us, and the person you report is not told who reported them. We may review reported content and, where a rule is broken, remove content or suspend or close the account responsible. We will act proportionately and, where reasonably possible, tell the affected user the reason.

8. Vendors

Vendor listings shown in Okani are third-party businesses. We provide them for your convenience. During the initial period, listings may be unverified. We do not guarantee the accuracy, availability, quality, pricing, or conduct of any vendor, and we are not a party to any arrangement you make with a vendor. Any booking or payment you make with a vendor is directly between you and that vendor. We do not currently process payments through Okani; if we add payment features later, we will publish additional terms and the applicable legal information first.

9. Beta / TestFlight period

Until the public launch, Okani is offered as a beta — first to friends and family, then through a public Apple TestFlight link and a Google Play open test, either of which anyone may use to install it. During this period:

This clause describes the nature of the beta. It does not remove your mandatory legal rights, and it does not apply after public launch.

10. Availability and changes to the Service

We work to keep the Service available but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features. If we plan to discontinue the Service, we will give reasonable notice and let you export your data first (see the Privacy Policy).

11. Price

Okani is currently free. If we introduce paid features, we will present the price and terms clearly and ask for your agreement before you pay. For any paid digital service bought by a consumer, your statutory right of withdrawal (14 days) under EU consumer law will be respected, subject to the legal exceptions (for example, where you ask for immediate performance of a fully delivered digital service and acknowledge losing the withdrawal right). We will set out the withdrawal process at the point of sale.

12. Ending your use

13. Our liability

We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill. We are liable for damage we cause through our fault, as required by French and German law. Specifically:

Nothing in this section reduces the mandatory statutory guarantees and remedies you have as a consumer in France or Germany.

14. Intellectual property in the Service

The Okani app, brand, and design are ours or our licensors'. These Terms do not give you any right to our name, logo, or software beyond using the Service normally.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by French law. This choice does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live — if you live in Germany, mandatory German consumer rules still protect you.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Okani after the change, the updated Terms apply. If you do not accept a change, you can delete your account.
